BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 44, has replied after coming under fire from a social media follower for posting a picture of a “dead animal”. Over the weekend the father-of-three had revealed that he was looking forward to having barbecued brisket for his Father’s Day lunch, which ended up taking two days to prep and 10 hours to cook. After sharing the recipe and a video of him slicing into the meat with his followers, Dan soon came under fire for posting snaps of “dead animals” to his account, which he soon hit back at and justified in a lengthy comment.

In view of his 184,000 followers, the newsreader posted the outcome of his attempt at barbecued brisket after teasing his followers with snaps of the recipe in progress. 

Clearly pleased with the way it had turned out, Dan arranged the thinly cut slices of beef on a black serving board.

Taking to social media the star proudly showed off what had transpired to be a labour of love.

He wrote: “So many questions about the brisket so this was the plan…”

The star went on to reveal that he had prepared a brisket to feed 12 people, before leaving it to marinate overnight in the fridge.

“Meat was from @farmisonuk (4kg cut which feeds about 12).

“Defrost, if required, cover in beef rub (lots of options), wrap it in clingfilm & leave it in the fridge for 24 hours.”

Dan continued: “When ready, cook fat side down for 6 hours at 105 degrees (I used a @traegergrills.uk on Super Smoke).

“Remove from heat and double wrap it in foil.”

Despite this seemingly being the last step, the BBC host continued to give instructions.

“Back on the grill for at least another 3 hours at 105. I used a @thermapen to make sure the internal temp was 90 degrees – it took 3 hrs 45 minutes,” Dan advised.

Finishing writing his step-by-step approach, Dan continued with his recipe.

“Remove, wrap in towels & leave in a cool box to rest until you need it,” he penned.

“Enjoy,” he finally finished, alongside a smiling face emoji.

However, not everyone was as enamoured with the cooked cut of beef as he was, as one follower pleaded with the star to stop posting snaps of cooked meat to his account.

The social media user wrote: “Enough of the dead animals!!”

Promptly replying to the comment, Dan was quick to address his and his family’s stance on meat-eating.

He wrote: “We buy our meat from ethical butchers and we talk to the kids about our impact on the planet and why we don’t eat as much meat as we used to.

“I feel that meat is part of a balanced diet,” he added.

Dan commented: “I also love you and respect your opinion.”
