Ryan Shepard, who served as rapper Eminem's stunt double for many performances, has died after being struck by a truck in Washington on 31 January.
The fatal incident occurred near a T-shaped intersection, where Ryan, 40, stepped onto the road and was struck by a vehicle heading southbound, per a police news bulletin shared on Facebook.
They wrote: "Officers located a 40-year-old male, identified as Ryan Shepard, suffering from injuries sustained after being struck by a truck. Shepard was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
"Preliminary investigation indicated that Shepard stepped into the roadway and was struck by the truck, which was traveling southbound on Olympia St."
Police continued to say that the driver of the truck remained at the scene and was not impaired at the time of the collision. An investigation is ongoing.
Ryan worked with Eminem as he rose to fame following the release of his 1999 album The Slim Shady LP.
Ryan accompanied the now 50 year old rapper for many early performances, including the 2002 MTV Movie Awards and the 2002 Anger Management Tour, for which he worked both as a stunt double and a stand-in.
While working for Eminem, he accompanied him for the European and Japanese legs of the Anger Management Tour. During which, he also assisted Eminem with some of his music videos, which included D12's "Purple Pills," in which he played a superhero clone of the rapper.
He then left Eminem's record label (Shady Records) in 2005 to pursue a career in engineering.
Ryan's brother Kyle told TMZ that Ryan was "incredibly intelligent" and had went on to work at Disney as a ride mechanical engineer, and eventually moving to Elon Musk's SpaceX as a test automation engineer.
He is survived by his two children: a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old, TMZ reports.
A memorial service was held for Ryan on 4 February.
The tragic news comes just days after Eminem's daughter Hailie Jade Mathers became engaged to Evan McClintock.
The 27 year old actress posted the happy news to Instagram on Monday morning last week. In the snaps, a side profile of Hailie – who has previously been compared to her dad – could be seen as the podcaster looked shocked while Evan was on knee presenting a ring to her.
The beauty was also seen flashing her new diamond engagement ring on her wedding finger as she helped her future husband open a bottle of champagne.
'Casual weekend recap… 2.4.23 i love you @evanmcclintock11,' wrote the brunette in her caption.
