Eurovision legend dies aged 45 after devastating brain tumour

Sara Tavares has died at the age of 45 after a brain tumour battle which lasted for over a decade.

The musician was Portugal’s 1994 Eurovision representative and performed her song Chamar a Música which ended up finishing in eighth place.

The news of Sara’s death was announced by her devastated family.

She was forced to pause her music career between 2009 and 2018 due to her cancer battle.

Following the news of Sara’s death, tributes have flooded in on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One devastated fan wrote: “So sad to hear about Sara. A legend who will be greatly missed.”

Another commented: “Just heard on Renaissance news. Speechless ! So young and so much artistic quality. Rest in peace dear Sara.”

“Thank you Sara Tavares. You warmed our heart with your music. U brought me joy Thank you for everything and so much you have given us. You were truly an inspiration,” a third added.

A fourth person added: “An icon of my adolescence. I’ll never forget her in ‘star shower’. A Diva one of the best voices from Portugal Rest in peace Sara.”
