If there is one thing Ariana Grande knows how to do, it’s speed up a relationship. Grande recently announced that she and her boyfriend Dalton Gomez were engaged. Fans were shocked as Gomez and Grande had only been linked to one another for about nine months before the announcement. Now, it has come out that not everyone may be in support of this speedy union.
Ariana Grande has a history of intense relationships
Grande is no stranger to serious relationships. From 2016 to 2018, the star dated rapper Mac Miller. When the two broke up, she only spoke highly of him. When he died a few months later, she posted a tribute to him on Instagram.
“I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will,” she wrote. “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times. I’m so mad, I’m so sad I don’t know what to do. You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else. I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you’re okay now. Rest.”
Shortly after Miller and Grande broke up, Grande jumped headfirst into a relationship with comedian Pete Davidson. The moment she met Davidson, Grande immediately wanted to marry him.
“I’m not a crush-y person, I don’t have, like, crushes on people I don’t know,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “But I left [Davidson’s writing room at ‘SNL’] and I jokingly said to my tour manager, I was like, ‘I’m marrying him. A hundred percent.’”
Two weeks after they started dating, they got engaged. Unfortunately, the engagement only lasted a few months and largely fell apart after Miller’s death.
Ariana’s friends are worried
Grande and Gomez dated in secret for as long as possible. During the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic lockdowns, the two quarantined together and got closer.
“Ariana has had some hesitation being so public about her relationship with Dalton as she’s seen how that has worn on her past relationships,” a source told Entertainment Tonight early last year. “Dalton and Ariana are in Los Angeles together during quarantine, and it has been a great opportunity for them to spend quality time together.”
On Dec. 20, Grande announced her engagement on Instagram, showing off her big engagement ring. While the couple seemed happy, some of the people close to Grande have been reportedly concerned that the whole thing has been “rushed.”
“They’re very in love right now, but friends think the engagement was somewhat rushed and are skeptical that the relationship will ultimately be short lived,” a source told the outlet.
Though those close to them may be concerned, Grande and Gomez don’t seem to be.
“Ariana and Dalton have been spending a ton of time together since getting engaged and keeping things pretty low key and private,” the source said. “They’re mainly keeping to themselves and just enjoying their time together.”
