Love Island 2019: The first 12 hopefuls are unveiled

Love Island 2019: The first 12 hopefuls are unveiled ahead of their villa debut… including a scientist, a fireman, a rugby player, and the brothers of Strictly’s AJ Pritchard and boxer Tyson Fury

  • The fifth season of the ITV2 show launches on Monday June 3, with 12 hopefuls heading to the Mallorcan villa
  • This year’s initial line-up features SEVEN men and only FIVE women
  • Two of this year’s male contestants are already known to the public – Curtis Pritchard being a pro ballroom dancer and brother to Strictly star AJ, and Tommy Fury being boxer Tyson’s brother
  • The show’s format sees extra contestants sent into the villa as the weeks progress while others are voted out
  • Caroline Flack is back as host of the series – having gone through her own love life woes during the last season, splitting from her fiancé in the process
  • Earlier this year Curtis’ brother AJ, 24, was reportedly caught in a romantic clinch with Caroline, 39

The line-up for Love Island 2019 has been unveiled by ITV, with just a week to go until the nation becomes besotted with a new batch of singletons.

12 hopefuls have been announced – with seven men outweighing just five ladies, promising a far from smooth-sailing start to the first coupling up of the fifth season.

Two men will reportedly be left out in the cold straight away, leaving the boys to battle against each other for the attention of the bikini-clad beauties moving into the Mallorcan villa.

Looking for love: 12 new singles are set to enter the famous villa on June 3 – with some already-known faces included in the 2019 line-up

Back for more: The series is to be fronted once again by Caroline Flack who, this time last year, was engaged to former Apprentice and Celebrity Big Brother star Andrew Brady

As usual, Caroline Flack will be presiding over matters – having gone through her own love life woes during the last season.

She launched Love Island 2018 with a fiancé – The Apprentice star Andrew Brady – and showed off her ring to the girls on the show. But midway through the season she split from him.

She was even linked to Strictly Come Dancing’s AJ Pritchard at one point this year – and his brother is now one of the housemates due to enter the famous villa.

Curtis – who is a pro dancer on Ireland’s Dancing With The Stars as well – isn’t the only famous sibling set to appear on the show. Boxer Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy will also take part this year, after much speculation over the past few weeks.

Joining this pair are five other men – a catering company owner, a fireman, a gym owner, an aircraft engineer and a semi-pro rugby player who doubles up as a chef.

The first five women set to saunter onto the show next week include a beauty therapist, a scientist, a pharmacist, a surfer and an air hostess.

Iain Stirling also returns with his inimitable take on all the island action as show narrator – remarking as the game of love gets underway.

The show sees the Islanders attempt to couple up in order to secure their places in the villa, with those who stay single finding themselves at risk of being dumped from the show.

When asked if she has ever spotted a Love Island romance before it’s happened, Caroline joked: ‘I can’t even match-make myself! So no, no one should rely on me to match-make them. I will just host the show and talk all about it’

Temptation is always rife for the Islanders, so loyalties will be tested, with surprise bombshell arrivals and unexpected twists and turns proving that the Love Island road to romance is never smooth.

Ultimately the public will decide their favourite couple, who will walk away from the villa with a life-changing cash prize, as they are crowned Love Island winners 2019 – taking the crowns from existing champions Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, who split a matter of weeks ago.

This marked the final coupling from 2018’s season to end their relationships, with the likes of Wes Nelson and Megan Barton-Hanson, and Adam Collard and Zara McDermott all splitting over the last few months.

Speaking ahead of the show’s launch, Caroline, 39, said: ‘No love situation is ever the same, no relationship is ever the same, we are all either in love, out of love, falling in love or falling out of it. It’s relatable and that is the thing that is never going to change.’

She went on: ‘The Flack Attacks! I love it. I feel like I’m in such a privileged position to do them because it’s the sort of stuff I’d be speaking about anyway as a viewer.

‘I feel like a viewer that’s getting to go in the villa. To deliver that news and be part of the narrative is really exciting. And also hosting [spin-off series] Aftersun, to be able to talk about everything going on in Love Island and to be able to narrate that chat is a real privilege.

‘I’m a viewer first, presenter second but I’m really just a professional viewer. I support them, I can’t be a robot when it comes to the show otherwise I wouldn’t be the right person to do it.’

What a difference a year makes: Ultimately the public will decide their favourite couple, who will walk away from the villa with a life-changing cash prize, as they are crowned Love Island winners 2019 – taking the crowns from existing champions Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, who split a matter of weeks ago

Sharing her pearls of wisdom as host of the show, Caroline said: ‘Love doesn’t happen easily, it happens over time and don’t worry if you don’t fancy someone at the beginning, you might fancy them by week two.

‘People often talk about how they relate to the dating dilemmas they see in the villa, we all feel that we’ve been there at some point.’

When asked if she has ever spotted a Love Island romance before it’s happened, Caroline joked: ‘I can’t even match-make myself! So no, no one should rely on me to match-make them.

‘I will just host the show and talk all about it!’

Love Island kicks off on ITV2 on Monday June 3.
