Addressing the status of her relationship with the Baby One More Time star, Madonna revealed that she recently checked in with her friend amid her conservatorship battle.

The Papa Don’t Preach singer said that she had been “just checking in on her, and congratulating her on her marriage. Or her pending marriage”.

Smiling, Madonna added: “I love her,” to Entertainment Tonight.

As Britney approaches her 14th year of being under a conservatorship, Madonna recently spoke out in defence of her friend, branding the situation a “violation of human rights”.

Britney recently spoke out against the conservatorship and the role her father Jamie Spears played in the situation amid the #FreeBritney movement.

She has been under a conservatorship since 2008, when she faced a public mental health crisis.

The court-ordered agreement gave Jamie control over her estate and other aspects of her life.

Wearing a top emblazoned with her friend’s name, Madonna took to her Instagram Stories to advocate for the Toxic singer’s freedom.

She wrote: “Give this woman her life back. Slavery was abolished so long ago!

“Death to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries, this is a violation of human rights!

“Britney we coming to get you out of jail!” she ended the statement.

Madonna’s comments in defence of Britney come as their famous kiss at the VMAs celebrated its eighth anniversary this year.

Taking to the stage at the 2003 VMAs, Britney, Madonna, Christina Aguelira and Missy Elliot put on an unforgettable performance to Madonna’s hit, Like A Virgin.

Part way through the performance, Britney and Madonna locked lips, in a moment that has grown to be one of pop culture’s most iconic moments.

Following their kiss, Madonna also turned around and did the same with Genie In A Bottle singer Christina.

That same year, Britney and Madonna collaborated on the former’s track Me Against The Music, which topped charts around the world.

Days ago, fans of the Lucky singer were left confused after Britney’s Instagram account disappeared.

The mother-of-two is usually active on the social media platform and boasts a following of 33 million.

However, Britney reassured her fans that she will be returning to the platform with a post on her Twitter page.

She wrote: “Don’t worry folks … just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement !!!! I’ll be back soon.”

The move came after the star shared the news of her engagement to her personal trainer boyfriend Sam on the platform.

Britney wrote: “Words can’t even say how shocked I am … geez although the a****** was way overdue !!!!

“It was definitely worth the wait …. yes world … that beautiful f****** man in that picture is MINE !!! I’m so blessed it’s insane !!!!”
