Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s film, Motichoor Chaknachoor, opened to a mixed response from both critics and the audience. In the Debamitra Biswal directorial, Nawaz plays a 36-year-old man who’s struggling to find the right girl for marriage. He counts his lucky stars when his gorgeous neighbour, Athiya Shetty, expresses her desire to marry him, but things take a U-turn soon. Before the release, the film was embroiled in a lot of controversies. However, it finally saw the light of day today. Prior to the film’s release, we sat down for an exclusive chat with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, where he revealed why he chose to do Motichoor Chaknachoor, his take on light-hearted films, the dull response for Sacred Games 2 and much more. Opening up on why he did Motichoor Chaknachoor, the actor said, “During the narration, I got an idea that the film was going to be good. It was a fun, light-comedy and a family movie. Considering these factors, I did Motichoor Chaknachoor. Uss waqt (during Sacred Games 2) mein thoda sa intense role kar raha tha, so I realized that I needed to do a light film.”

Meanwhile, our critic gave 2.5 stars to Motichoor Chaknachoor and wrote, “While the premise had potential, barely the surface of it is scratched. Instead, writer-Director Debamitra Biswal is more focused on establishing small-town dynamics and getting the milieu right. And there’s nothing wrong with that had it not taken center stage over the actual plot and central characters. Additionally, in going all out to establish small-town ethos, it seems that Biswal justifies the stigmas and regression still plaguing these areas (I’m not sure if it was intentional, and maybe it isn’t, but it certainly doesn’t send across the right message).”
