Olly Murs, 35, felt more able to “chat” with his colleagues including Sir Tom Jones, Anne-Marie and will.i.am on The Voice this year, after they were separated from a live studio audience for the first time in the show’s nine-year run. The Heart Skips A Beat hitmaker divulged a “different side” has emerged from him and the other coaches on the reality show, as they felt able to have more banter away from prying eyes.

It was better than I expected

Olly shared: “I felt I was able to chat a bit more with the other coaches and build friendships.

“It was better than I expected, I felt like I could talk to the other coaches more, we could have a bit more banter, more of a connection,” he added.

The star admitted when a crowd is in the studio he can sometimes “play up” more to the cameras, instead of speaking with his colleagues.

He added: “Sometimes when there’s a crowd there I can play up a bit more, I think you’re seeing a different side to us coaches without the audience there.”

The programme has had no live studio audience since the UK government-enforced social distancing restrictions due to coronavirus pandemic, which began last March.

At the current time, Britain is in its third national lockdown which means that no person should leave their home for a non-essential reason.

Olly opened up on his experience working on The Voice in a candid chat with wedding shop owner Abigail Neill.

The pair became acquainted after he picked out a suit from Abigail’s Collection, based in Colchester Essex for a friend’s nuptials.

He is set to be best man for the third time this year, as he takes on the role for his pal Jake Wakelin’s special day.

The star revealed: “I’ve been best man twice before – I enjoyed being the best man. It is a great responsibility.”

However, for the time being, there are no plans for Olly to wed his long-term girlfriend Amelia Tank, who he has been dating since 2019.

It comes as Olly replied to a fan who labelled him and Amelia an “odd couple”, after he uploaded a video to Instagram showing how the pair like to enjoy the TV sitting in various different positions.

He laughed off the woes of lockdown as he made the most of spending quality time with his longtime love, in the funny clip set to the tune of Alice Deejay’s Better Off Alone.

Olly captioned the video: “Just another boring Saturday night in lockdown… we ain’t doing much.”

Underneath one of his followers, joked: “#theoddcouple.”

Not missing a beat, Olly typed back: “That’s what the neighbours call us.”

Amelia also weighed in on their unconventional couple dynamic.

She wrote: “Nothing normal about this (or us) #lockdownmadeusdoit.”

Olly began dating Amelia back in January 2019 and credited his weight loss to her exercise and nutrition plan.

The Voice star revealed on Heart Breakfast: “She’s not a personal trainer but she’s done bikini competitions in the past and she does train a lot, but she is actually my personal trainer. In more ways than one!”

He added in a more serious tone: “She’s brilliant and she’s been absolutely fantastic.”
