Despite a 23-year prison sentence for criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape, disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, still had a royal honor on his name … until today. According to The London Gazette via The Hollywood Reporter, Queen Elizabeth has officially stripped Weinstein of his Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire honor that was given to him in 2004.
"The Queen has directed that the appointment of Harvey Weinstein to be an Honorary Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 29 January 2004, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order,” a statement in The London Gazette, said.
The honor is meant for people that have made “distinguished, innovative contribution to any area." It's unclear why the monarchy waited this long to remove the title, but surely it's better late than never.
Weinstein was accused of raping and sexually assaulting multiple women, including several actresses who helped bring him to justice. He is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence at Wende Correctional Facility, a maximum-security state prison east of Buffalo, New York.
