Rita Ora’s £3m Cannes jewellery mistakenly ‘left on plane’ by courier

Jewellery worth £3million which was being delivered to Rita Ora for her to wear at the Cannes film festival went missing after a courier left them on a plane.

The unknown woman was transporting the gems on an easyJet flight to Nice from London when they left their suitcase containing them on the plane.

The person, described as a "third party" and not part of Rita’s team, tried to get back onto the plane to recover them but it was too late and they went back to London.

Police are understood to have secured the jewellery for safe keeping when the flight landed back in the UK.

A police source told AFP: "Someone with their head in the clouds nearly lost several million."

Rita jetted in to Cannes to attend several parties and premieres planning on wearing the jewellery collection.

It was reportedly lent to the musician by an unknown London-based jewellers that specialise in red carpet events.

However Rita wasn't without any jewellery for long as she was seen at the Charles Finch dinner, where she was spotted with Liam Payne , wearing diamond drop earrings, a glittering necklace and rings.

At an event with Magnum ice cream in Nice, Rita sported more sparkling jewellery as she donned a stunning white dress.

Rita, who is about to embark on a European tour for her most recent album, Phoenix, left Nice by private jet on Saturday to return to the UK.

She has dismissed recent reports that linking her to pal Liam : "I know people have said there's something with Liam Payne – and he's one of the best people I've ever met – but we've become such close friends.

"It's unusual to see a guy and a girl as close friends and it's unusual for two famous people to have a connection and not have to hook up."
