Alongside Jermaine Jenas, Oti Mabuse, 31, presented The One Show this evening where they were joined by guests Beverley Knight and Freddie Flintoff. During their chat, the dancer took the opportunity to question the 41-year-old Top Gear star about his preferred choice of Strictly Come Dancing partner.

Oti began by jokingly telling the presenter she was “so hurt” to discover that he wanted to dance with Anton du Beke and not her.

The ex cricketer made the admission in his latest memoir The Book of Fred: The Most Outrageously Entertaining Book of the Year.

Laughing, the cricketer said he was discussing Strictly “hypothetically” and had no real plans to take part in the show.

But wanting to know more, Oti echoed his words and asked: “You would rather dance with Anton du Beke than me?”

“Yeah,” he replied, which prompted Beverley to say: “Oh, wow!”

Taken aback by his response, the presenter reminded him that she was the “two-time Strictly champion”.

Freddie said he replied to her question too quickly as he went on to explain why he wrote that in his book.

He said: “I was thinking about it and everyone talks…

“This is more of a reflection on me, I’m quite awkward.

“I think with Anton, I’d be less awkward. One, I know him.

“I saw him on A Question of Sport, he knows more about sport than anyone else.”

Freddie added that with this in mind, it would “be easier” for him to have Anton, but joked he “wasn’t sure who would lead”.

Guest Beverley chimed in telling Oti she would love to dance with her, but insisted she wasn’t up for Strictly.

Oti has won the Glitterball trophy twice; firstly with Kelvin Fletcher in 2019 followed by Bill Bailey last year.

Hopes for a third win in a row came to an end last weekend when her dance partner Ugo Monye was voted out of the show.

The dancing duo’s exit came a week after he pulled out for one episode due to back problems.

Earlier on the show this evening, her co-host Jermaine jokingly said he blamed Ugo for their departure.

“I’m so heartbroken,” Oti replied, reminding him that he suffered with his back in their final week.

The dancer also shared a post about her ex dance partner on her Instagram page on Sunday night.

Alongside a video of the pair, she wrote: “Going out feeling super grateful x @ugomonye you’re a legend.

“Thank you to all who supported us”
