The character was first teased in the end credits scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Sources tell Deadline that the search for who would portray the character began in August, with director James Gunn meeting with Will and several other actors for the role.

Plot details are of course kept under wraps, but production is reportedly starting in November.

If you don’t know, Adam Warlock was first introduced in the Fantastic Four comics, then in Thor in 1969. The character was originally just called “Him” when he was created by scientists as an artificially perfect human.

The name “Adam Warlock” comes after an encounter with High Evolutionary, who gave him the name Warlock. When he went to Counter-Earth, he was befriended by teenagers who gave him the name Adam.

Will Poulter has most recently been seen in the new Hulu series Dopesick, and before that, the Prime Video series The Underground Railroad. He’s also well known for his roles in The Maze Runner, We’re The Millers and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
