Delhi: Property dealer found dead with bullet injury on head in Chattarpur

The deceased, identified as 36-year-old Sanjiv Sejwal, was a resident of Lado Sarai and he was found dead on the fourth floor of JMD Estate building.

A 36-year-old property dealer was found dead inside a house in South Delhi’s Chhatarpur Thursday morning. Police said the victim, Sanjiv Sejwal, had a gunshot injury in his head and no suicide note was found at the spot.

According to police, Sejwal, a resident of Lado Sarai, was a witness in a murder case registered at Mehrauli police station and had two PSOs deployed for his security. However, on Wednesday, he asked them to go home before heading to Chhatarpur. Police said they received a PCR call at 4.45 am from a woman who said Sejwal had shot himself at his 4th floor rented flat in JMD Estate.

Additional DCP (South) M Harsha Vardhan said, “We went to the spot and found Sejwal on the ground with a revolver by his side… We are investigating the death from all angles. The woman is also being questioned.”

DCP (South) Benita Mary Jaiker said, “Initial inquest proceedings have been carried out … enquiries are pointing towards a possible case of suicide.”

On Wednesday night, Sejwal had gone to the flat to meet three friends, including the woman, for a party. At the time of the incident, the woman and Sejwal were at the flat. “We seized the licensed pistol… We found that Sejwal was a witness in a murder case at Mehrauli — his nephew was killed by assailants over a money dispute in 2014. A chargesheet in the case was filed in 2017 and Sejwal had recorded his statement in court. Since then, two PSOs were deployed…” said a senior officer, who did not want to be named.
