Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should release a White Paper on the modalities of sharing of Godavari and Krishna river waters before taking up any new project jointly, speakers at a meeting said here on Tuesday.
Participating as chief guest in the first roundtable on sharing of river waters organised by Andhra Pradesh Ryothu Sangham, irrigation analyst T. Lakshminarayan said: “The Chief Ministers of both Telangana and A.P. should formulate amicable propositions vis-a-vis the use of water from both these rivers for irrigation purposes in consultation with political parties, agricultural associations and stakeholders.”
Ravula Venkaiah, vice-president, All India Kisan Sabha, said that since it was known to everybody that between the Krishna and Godavari rivers, the latter had more water than the former, he demanded that both the State governments make the percentage of water being shared among the districts public.
