Bikers drop bag containing over ₹1.5 crore in Chennai

Abiramapuram police have seized the cash from the spot and investigation is on.

Two men on a bike reportedly dropped off a bag containing a huge amount of currencies while they were crossing a road in Varadhapuram, in the early hours. Abiramapuram Police seized the cash from the spot and have taken it to the police station. Further investigation is on.

While a patrol team of police personnel were on duty at around 1 a.m, two persons who were on a bike, crossed the area in Erikarai Street, Varadhapuram, and dropped the bag on the road. Even as the police personnel called out to the duo, they sped away without heeding the police men on duty.

The police personnel opened the bag and found cash in new Rs.500 notes.

The cash was then brought to the police station by the police personnel. A senior police official said, "So far no one has come to claim the cash. We are yet to come to evaluate the value of the currencies, but we estimate it could be around ₹1.5 crore. We will hand it over to treasury department after counting them."
