BJP urges L-G, alleges govt. deliberately starving North body
The BJP on Wednesday urged L-G Anil Baijal to direct the Delhi government to provide civic bodies their share of funds for the construction of road overbridges (ROBs) and road underbridges (RUBs) in the interest of decongesting the Capital.
Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta alleged that the AAP government was deliberately starving the North Delhi Municipal Corporation of funds in spite of the Central government’s decision in this regard.
“The Delhi government’s denial of funds is putting obstacles in the implementation of various schemes aimed at larger public interest. The Delhi government has annulled the allocation of plan funds under the transport sector and has not made any alternative funding arrangements despite its responsibilities to do so, Mr. Gupta alleged.
He claimed that due to the non-availability of funds to the tune of ₹146 crore, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation was not able to construct ROBs/RUBs at Kirari, Ghevra and Narela Mandi. Since the Delhi government had, he argued further, not released ₹47.31 crore to the North Corporation, work related to the construction of a bridge at Sultanpuri, near Nangloi, had also been held up.
In public interest
“These bridges are well-planned and their construction is in larger public interest. It is, therefore, essential that the Delhi government releases the requisite funds for construction. The attitude of the Delhi government smacks of political vendetta. It is starving these projects of the required funds despite directions of the Centre,” he added.
