Gundlupet case: 2 policemen suspended

The Chamarajanagar district police have suspended assistant sub-inspector of police C. Rajendra Prasad and head constable Srinivas on charges of dereliction of duty and indiscipline in the case pertaining to atrocities perpetrated on a Dalit youth in Gundlupet recently.

The suspended duo was found to be kicking and assaulting the victim when they picked him up from the Shanishwara temple near Madralli village in Gundlupet taluk in the early hours of June 3, the police said citing video clippings of the alleged act shown on social media and some TV channels.

The two, who brought the victim, Pratap, in the highway patrol vehicle after locals allegedly stripped and thrashed him, have also been accused of taking away the victim in the same naked condition from the spot without extending him the dignity of covering him in clothes, said a statement issued by the Chamrarajanagar Superintendent of Police.
