L-G urged to direct AAP govt. to withdraw order on fund release

Govt. had asked to stop release of funds to 28 DU colleges

The BJP on Tuesday urged Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to direct the Delhi government to immediately withdraw its directive to stop the release of funds to 28 Delhi University colleges fully or partly funded by it.

Terms it unfortunate

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta termed “unfortunate” that Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had issued the said directions, in a letter on April 16, to the Secretary of Higher Education stating that no funds should be released to these colleges till governing bodies were formed.

“The undemocratic and untimely move of the Delhi government is causing grave financial crisis amongst the teaching and non-teaching staff in addition to the students of these colleges for no fault of theirs. It is disturbing the academic and administrative functioning of these colleges as the admission process has begun and the new academic session has started,” Mr. Gupta argued.

According to Mr. Gupta, the teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students must not be “used” by the Delhi government to “grind its axe” for political purposes.

Mr. Gupta said that he, along with a delegation from the National Democratic Teachers’ Front, would soon call upon the L-G to impress upon him the need for his early intervention in the matter in the interest of academic and administrative functioning in these colleges.
