NGT directs officials to inspect illegal banquet halls

Notes compensation to be levied on defaulters was not assessed earlier

Following a plea alleging operation of illegal banquet halls in west Delhi, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed a joint committee comprising representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board and Delhi Pollution Control Committee to conduct an inspection.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the joint committee to carry out inspections of the banquet and marriage halls in Punjabi Bagh.

However, the Bench noted that the report furnished had said that while eight banquet halls were inspected, there were others in the area as well. “They could not produce building plans or maps.
