Proposal for making online modules for SOL invited

Faculty of Delhi University has been invited to submit proposals to make online modules for up to five undergraduate courses to be uploaded by the School of Open Learning (SOL) on November 1.

UGC had asked the SOL to upload the first semester of “Massive Online Open Courses” (MOOC) for B.A. (Prog.), B.Com (Hon.), B.Com and B.A English (Hon.). The proposal was earlier approved by the executive council of the university.

Proposals have been invited for the preparation of these modules either individually or in groups for each chapter or unit or paper in the respective courses.

Giving directions for making these modules, a notice on the university’s website, uploaded on Tuesday, states that the video lectures should be in the form of “seasonal episodes” and should include classroom presentations along with certain “acts” or small movies, documentaries, field work, virtual experimental learning, gaming or others. They must also include short question and answers.

The UGC’s guidelines for forming such courses direct that they must have a “four quadrant approach”, which includes video or audio tutorials, open access web content, self-assessment modes such as MCQs and reading material in the form of e-books or PDFs.

It also states that the proposals must be in line with the Central government’s “SWAYAM” guidelines. Submission of names of interested teachers and students from respective departments has been invited latest by October 10, the notice states.
