SDMC, DPCC told to look into plea alleging illegal garbage dumping

NGT seeks factual and action-taken report within 2 months

Following a plea alleging illegal dumping of waste in Neb Sarai, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to take appropriate action.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the pollution control body to also furnish an action-taken report in the matter. “Let the SDMC and the DPCC look into the matter, take appropriate action in accordance with law and furnish a factual and action-taken report to this tribunal within two months from the date of receipt of this order,” it said.

The directions came when the green panel was hearing a plea moved by city resident Ram Kumar Panwar and others alleging illegal dumping of waste in the area.

“Allegation in this application is that there is illegal dumping of garbage at Neb Sarai in violation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. The applicant has relied upon the photographs in support of the allegations,” the Bench observed while taking note of the plea.

The DPCC was made the nodal agency for coordination and compliance of the orders.
