Voices within Delhi Cong. seek Chacko’s replacement

Blame AICC in-charge for losing LS, Assembly and civic body polls

After failing to win any of the seven seats in the city during the Lok Sabha election, a section of the Delhi Congress has called for the replacement of Delhi AICC in-charge P.C. Chacko.

A few senior Congress leaders said Mr. Chacko was adamant about having a tie-up with AAP that did not materialise and hence the party candidates got less time to campaign. Also, several cadres were demotivated as alliance talks were going on with a party that had brought them down to “zero” in the Delhi Assembly.

“Under the leadership of Mr. Chacko, the party has lost all the elections, including the Lok Sabha, Assembly and civic body polls in 2015 and 2017. If party chief Rahul Gandhi can think of resigning after taking moral responsibility of the defeat then why should Mr. Chacko stay,” said party leader Rohit Manchanda.

He alleged that Mr. Chacko “misbehaved” with him at party office on Friday. “I was there to greet him but he lashed out at me and said he will ensure that leaders like me have no right to be there in the party. I demand Mr. Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to replace him,” Mr. Manchanda added. Mr. Chacko denied having knowledge of any such incident.
