19 cases in Erode district
Erode district reported 19 new cases on Thursday, taking the tally to 14,675. While 19 persons were discharged, 129 persons continue to be under treatment.
Eight COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Salem on Thursday. According to officials, four cases were indigenous and four were reported in Namakkal and Erode.
In Namakkal, five cases were reported. As per the bulletin, all cases were indigenous.

Biker electrocuted at Ghode ki Khabar
Thursday’s sudden downpour resulted in the death of a biker in old city.
A live electric wire fell on Mohammed Mustafa at Ghode ki Khabar around midnight while he was returning home.
Mustafa died on the spot and his body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

IOCL South gets a new director
K. Sailendra has taken over as the executive director (Regional Services), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., southern region, comprising Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Besides being the regional in-charge for key areas, he will be the regional-level coordinator for the States and the Union Territories, a release said.
New SP takes charge
P. Rajan on Saturday assumed the office of the Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi.
He hitherto worked as Superintendent of Police, Railway, in Chennai. He replaced T.Jeyachandran, who was transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Madurai.
Woman succumbs to injuries
A home-maker who was admitted to hospital three days ago with a serious slit on her neck succumbed to injuries on Saturday. The victim was identified as Saleena Yusef. The woman was reportedly attacked by her husband during their stay in a hotel in the city.
Burglary reported in R.A. Puram
Gold and diamond jewellery worth ₹ 40 lakh and ₹ 1 lakh cash were reported stolen from a businessman’s house in R.A. Puram recently.
According to police, Viswanathan, from Bishop Garden had gone out of town with his family and when he returned on Saturday, he found the valuables missing. The back door was found open.
He lodged a complaint with the police. Further investigation is on.
The water level in Mettur dam stood at 103.85 feet on Sunday against its full level of 120 feet. The inflow was 411 cusecs and the discharge 1,499 cusecs.
TMC invites applications
The Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) has invited applications from aspirants looking to contest in the upcoming Assembly election in Tamil Nadu.
In a statement, party president G.K. Vasan said the applications should be submitted from Feburary 25 to 27.
The application fee is ₹5,000 for general constituencies and ₹2,500 for women candidates and for reserved constituencies.

Anganwadi workers continue stir
Several anganwadi workers and assistants continued their waiting agitation for the second day near the Collectorate here on Tuesday in support of their demands.
Their demands to the government included regularisation as government employees and provision of time-bound scale of pay. Over 300 anganwadi workers participated in the stir, said police sources.

Salem district reported 12 positive cases. According to health officials, six cases were indigenous and six have returned from Chennai and Erode.
Five cases were reported in Namakkal, one patient has returned from Coimbatore.
Level crossing to be closed
To take up urgent maintenance work, the level crossing gate at the Varakkal temple at West Hill Yard would be closed from 8 a.m. on February 26 to 6 p.m. on February 27, a press release said here on Tuesday.

The State government on Tuesday announced that all State government offices across the State will work on February 27. The decision was taken in view of the ongoing Assembly session, which is scheduled until Saturday. A G.O. to this effect was issued by Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan on Tuesday.
Bedi undergoes surgery
Legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi underwent a bypass surgery at a city hospital a few days back after he complained of heart problems. He is recovering well.
The 74-year-old Bedi is expected to be discharged soon, said a close confidant of the former India captain.
He added that Bedi “is currently doing fine.”
