Ranvir Singh was forced to issue an apology during Lorraine on Monday after a\u00a0 ‘psychic’ parrot wrongly predicted the Women’s World Cup final winners.<\/p>\n
During a segment on Friday, the bird Larry, who had\u00a0previously correctly predicted all the fixtures in the sporting event,\u00a0had ITV viewers very excited when he predicted that\u00a0England would beat Spain on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Despite the Lionesses hard efforts the match\u00a0ended in heartbreak as England were beaten by Spain – despite a sensational penalty save from goalkeeper Mary Earps.<\/p>\n
Opening Monday’s show, guest presenter Ranvir apologised for the ‘spectacularly wrong’ prediction and joked the parrot’s ‘career is over’.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said: ‘We do have to start today’s show with an apology, Larry, our psychic parrot, got it spectacularly wrong on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n ‘His career is over’: Ranvir Singh was forced to issue an apology during Lorraine on Monday after a ‘psychic’ parrot wrongly predicted the Women’s World Cup final winners<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Predictions: During a segment on Friday, the bird Larry, who had previously correctly predicted all the fixtures in the sporting event, had ITV viewers very excited when he predicted that England would beat Spain on Sunday<\/p>\n ‘Larry, he predicted that England would win the World Cup final… he’s on the phone to his lawyers right now as we speak. His career is over, I’m afraid, Larry, you’re a liar – that’s all we’ve got to say!’\u00a0<\/p>\n During the segment on Friday, Ranvir joked that the bird had ‘stage fright’ after causing chaos in the studio as he failed to partake in the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n Two people held up food with different team’s flags on it and Larry picked one hand which predicted who will win.\u00a0<\/p>\n Jake Quickenden helped out during the show and held up a cup with the England flag on it.\u00a0<\/p>\n As Larry refused to play the game, Ranvir joked that Jake was ‘literally feeding’ the parrot as he took the England cup of food giving fans hope that the Lionesses could have brought it home.\u00a0<\/p>\n Unfortunately Sarina Wiegman’s side, who inspired millions of fans to tune in up and down the country, were defeated in Australia by Olga Carmona’s first half strike on Sunday.<\/p>\n The Lionesses were given a lifeline when Earps made a terrific stop to deny Jennifer Hermoso from 12 yards – but her teammates were unable to find the net themselves up the other end, bringing an unfortunate end to a terrific tournament that has raised the profile of women’s football like no other.<\/p>\n Supporters nationwide poured into pubs, bars and dedicated fan zones for the historic match, backing the team until the very last kick.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Devastating: Despite the Lionesses hard efforts the match ended in heartbreak as England were beaten by Spain – despite a sensational penalty save from goalkeeper Mary Earps<\/p>\n But there were tears of anguish, rather than joy, at the final whistle as Spain were crowned world champions, leaving England wondering what could have been.<\/p>\n The European Champions had initially started well, and were inches away from opening the scoring themselves when Lauren Hemp’s looping effort hit the crossbar.<\/p>\n But when Carmona drilled home just before the half-hour, the momentum swung Spain’s way and they went on to dominate the rest of the game.<\/p>\n They had a golden chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty midway through the second half, given for a handball against Keira Walsh following a lengthy VAR review.<\/p>\n But Earps made a terrific save to deny Jennifer Hermoso, before launching into a passionate celebration that sparked cheers from millions of fans watching back home.<\/p>\n Wiegman turned to Lauren James, arguably England’s star of the tournament who missed the last two games through suspension, and Euros hero Chloe Kelly in the second half, but they were unable to provide inspiration from the bench.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n It comes as stars heaped praise on England’s ‘inspirational’ Lionesses and shared their pride as celebrities reacted to\u00a0the Women’s World Cup final defeat.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Apology: Opening Monday’s show, guest presenter Ranvir apologised for the ‘spectacularly wrong’ prediction and said the parrots ‘career is over’<\/p>\n Taking to Instagram and Twitter, many shared their gratitude to the team of talented ladies for making history and changing the sport for the better.\u00a0<\/p>\n Myleene Klass posted a montage of photographs showing the England team and penned: ‘Hold your heads high Lionesses. What inspiration women you are. Fighters to the end.’\u00a0<\/p>\n Meanwhile\u00a0Lisa Snowdon shared a photograph of goalkeeper Mary Earps roaring after her sensational penalty save, and wrote: ‘So disappointed for our girls… So, so proud of you.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
