Len Goodman's cause of death has been revealed, five months after the dancer turned TV star passed away.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge passed away rather unexpectedly just a few days shy of his 79th birthday.

Len's cause of death has now been revealed in his death certificate, with the Daily Express exclusively reporting that the TV legend passed away after prostate cancer spread to his bones.

Len was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2009 and underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his prostate gland in June of the same year, after which he said everything was "gorgeously good."

Tragically, 14 years after his first diagnosis the cancer spread to his bones with his cause of death being recorded as ‘metastatic prostate cancer’.

According to Cancer Research UK, metastatic prostate cancer is sometimes called 'advanced prostate cancer'.

The charity explains: "It most commonly spreads to lymph nodes in other parts of the body or to the bones. It can also spread to other organs such as the lungs.”

When Len was first diagnosed, back in 2009, he opted to keep his health concerns a secret from his colleagues and waited until he had finished filming Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) in the US before seeking treatment.

Afterwards, in an interview with the Mail On Sunday, Len said he had felt “vulnerable” when he found out about the diagnosis but was “right as rain” after the operation.

He said at the time: “I could have said "sorry" and not done the show, but the doctors felt I wasn't riddled with it and it wasn't so far advanced that it was a life-or-death scenario.”

Five months before he died, Len announced his retirement from DWTS to "spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain.”

His sudden death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry as even his closest friends were unaware he was battling cancer again.

Fellow judge Anton Du Beke told the Mirror: “I knew Len as man and boy really, we became very good friends. But I didn’t know he was ill, it was the suddenness of it.”

At the start of the new Strictly Come Dancing series, stars of the show including Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Tess Daly paid tribute to "true gentleman" Len who was "perfect in every way".

And Dancing With The Stars have renamed their Mirrorball trophy after the late judge.
