Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has teamed up with Epiphone for a 1979 Flying V signature model guitar.

The new model, which is described as a “painstaking recreation” of the original ’79 Flying V, pays homage to one of the most recognizable guitar silhouettes of all-time.

“I am extremely honored to be able to put out an Epiphone Flying V today,” Hammett said in a press release. “Epiphone represents great sounding guitars at accessible prices, which is fundamentally important for up-and-coming musicians.”

“I’m beyond pleased that I can offer the ’79 Flying V in this capacity,” he added. “It means so much to me to be able to put good guitars in the hands of young players.”

The new signature model features a mahogany body, a one-piece mahogany neck with volute, Grover Rotomatic machine heads with “spade” buttons, and a custom bridge.

The guitar features a pair of Gibson USA Calibrated T-Type humbucker pickups wired to CTS potentiometers and an Orange Drop capacitor.

Also in place are a Switchcraft 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and a 1/4-inch output jack. A Kirk Hammett logo adorns the rear of the headstock, and the axe comes housed in a black hardshell case with a red plush interior.

The new model continues Hammett’s partnership with Gibson Brands, with the two having previously collaborated on a replica of his cherished “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard.
