This Morning: Nicholas Ralph chats about upcoming series<\/h3>\n

Nicholas Ralph has starred as James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small for three years, and the popular Channel 5\u00a0drama has won hearts across the nation. Express.co.uk has taken a look at Nicholas’ life before he joined the period drama, which is based on the books by veterinary legend Alf Wight.<\/p>\n

Fans of the Channel 5 series are looking forward to the All Creatures Christmas special, which will air tonight. James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralph) and Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton) are expecting a baby together but are currently separated as James was called to War.<\/p>\n

Since being married, the couple have started to plan their future and feel they need to leave Skeldale House. In the teaser for the upcoming festive episode, the pair have an emotional phone call which makes James determined to get back to her in time for the birth.<\/p>\n

Most episodes are packed full of emotion, and it seems this year’s Christmas episode will also move fans. Will James be able to find his way home in time for Christmas?<\/p>\n

Back at Skeldale House, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) prepares a community Christmas celebration to try to lift the spirits of locals during the festive period.<\/p>\n

Nicholas’ life behind-the-scenes is of course very different to his All Creatures character’s background, but there are a few small similarities.<\/p>\n

Nicholas grew up in the Scottish Highlands and speaks with a strong Scottish accent, however he wasn’t actually born in the country.<\/p>\n

He was actually born in and spent his early childhood in Cape Town, South Africa.<\/p>\n

However, he also spent a lot of time across the pond as he has family in the southern US states.<\/p>\n
