Hardik To Miss New Zealand Game

India suffered a blow ahead of Sunday’s World Cup game against New Zealand in Dharamsala with all-rounder Hardik Pandya ruled out of the match because of injury.

Pandya suffered the injury when he attempted to stop a straight drive from Bangladesh opener Litton Das on his follow-through in Pune on Friday.

He ended up twisting his left ankle due to which he had to leave the field after bowling just three deliveries and could not play any further part in the match.

He was rushed for scans after which he returned to the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and watched the rest of the match from the dressing room.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Pandya has been advised rest and will miss the New Zealand game, but will join the team ahead of the next match against England on Sunday, October 29.

‘The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England,’ BCCI stated on Friday.

The 30 year old will be rushed to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on Friday where he will be treated by a specialist doctor from England and could be administered injections to aid his recovery, The Indian Express reported.

‘He pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry about,’ Captain Rohit Sharma said. ‘We’ll see how he feels tomorrow morning and then plan how to go forward.’
